The Meaning Behind the Day
Daniel becoming a Bar Mitzvah marks an important Jewish milestone as he takes on greater responsibility within the Jewish community and is called to the Torah.
No prior knowledge of Hebrew or Jewish traditions is needed. We are simply happy to have you celebrating this meaningful milestone with Daniel and our family.
A kippah, also called a yarmulke, is a small head covering traditionally worn in the synagogue as a sign of respect. Men are expected to wear a kippah while inside the sanctuary. Kippot will be available for guests upon arrival.
Being called to the Torah is an important Jewish milestone. During the service, Daniel will participate in the Shabbat service and take on a meaningful role in the Torah reading.
During the service, Daniel will read from the Torah (the Hebrew Bible). His specific weekly reading is called Vayishlach (Genesis 32:4–36:43).
This text tells the famous story of Jacob returning home to make peace with his estranged brother, Esau. The night before they meet, Jacob wrestles with a mysterious angel, holds his ground, and is blessed with the new name Israel (meaning “one who overcomes challenges”). It is a beautiful story about resilience, growth, and peace — the perfect theme for Daniel as he steps into adulthood.
Kiddush is traditionally a blessing over wine or grape juice that recognizes the holiness of Shabbat. Following Daniel's service, guests are invited to continue celebrating with the family at the Kiddush luncheon.
Kabbalat Shabbat is the Friday evening service that welcomes the beginning of Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath.
Not at all. Guests are welcome to participate at whatever level feels comfortable. Simply follow along with the congregation and enjoy being part of Daniel's special day.
Synagogue Etiquette
Guests are encouraged to wear business casual, synagogue-appropriate attire.
- Men: Dress slacks or khakis with a collared shirt. A jacket is welcome but not required.
- Women: Dresses, skirts, dress pants, or dressy separates. We kindly ask that attire be respectful and appropriate for the synagogue.
Comfortable, polished, and respectful is perfect.
No. Because the service takes place on Shabbat, cell phone use, texting, photography and recording are not permitted inside the sanctuary during the service. Guests should silence and put away their devices before entering.
Food is strictly kosher. The synagogue campus maintains a nut-free policy, and outside food should not be brought onto the premises.
Yes. Immediately following Daniel's Bar Mitzvah service, guests are invited to join the Green family for a traditional Kiddush luncheon on-site.
Arrival & Synagogue Security
Service begins at 8:45 AM. Guests should arrive before 10:00 AM to be seated prior to Daniel being called to the Torah.
We request that all guests be there, including Daniel's friends.
Yes. Guests should be prepared to present a valid photo ID upon arrival. Attendees will pass through security screening, including walk-through metal detectors, and bags or purses may be searched by professional security personnel.
Parking is available in the main lot at B'nai Torah Congregation, 6261 SW 18th Street, Boca Raton, FL 33433. Guests are encouraged to arrive early as parking may fill quickly during Shabbat morning services.

Yes. We have secured a preferred group room block for our out-of-town family and friends at Aloft Delray Beach, which is also the location of Daniel's Saturday evening celebration.
Located in the vibrant South of Atlantic (SOFA) district, Aloft puts you just steps away from some of Delray Beach's best dining, shopping and entertainment, making it a convenient home base for the weekend.

Book the Green Bar Mitzvah Room BlockWe prefer Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) — it is the closest, roughly 25 minutes from the main weekend venues — but Fort Lauderdale (FLL) works too. Both addresses, with tap-to-navigate links, are on the Travel page.
Saturday Night
Yes! Kids are encouraged to bring their favorite Crocs to decorate during Saturday night's celebration. Adults are welcome to pair stylish sneakers with their formal attire.

Absolutely — Saturday evening includes a dedicated kids' table, a Croc-decorating station, and a candy bar. We just ask that you let us know how many little ones to expect when you RSVP.
